Gekkard: Elevating Fintech with Crypto Experience
Overview
Gekkard is a modern fintech platform that merges traditional finance with crypto, offering a user-friendly app for trading, payments, and financial management. My role was to lead the creative direction, design the brand identity, and craft an intuitive UX for both web and mobile.
💳 Approach: Bridging Finance and Crypto for the Modern User
In 2020, the gap between traditional banking and crypto was still wide. Users — especially digital nomads and remote professionals — were forced to manage separate apps for everyday payments and crypto investments, often facing friction, unclear regulations, and poor design.
Gekkard was created as an innovative solution to unify these worlds: one platform offering both fiat tools (IBAN account, SEPA payments, debit card) and access to crypto investments via its partner Gekkoin — all wrapped in a simple, trustworthy experience.
My design approach focused on:
— Familiarity first: banking essentials upfront, crypto as a seamless extension.
— Simplified compliance: one-time AML check unlocking both banking and Gekkoin investments.
— Clarity and trust: clear partner communication, clean UI, and intuitive navigation.
Gekkard offered modern users the flexibility to manage both currencies — without switching platforms or compromising on security.
01. Branding
Design a brand that builds trust while embracing innovation — combining the structure of traditional finance with the dynamism of crypto. The name “Gekkard” blends “Gekko” and “card,” reflecting agility and digital-native banking. The visual identity combines a modern, credible color palette, a flexible logo, and clean minimalistic design. To ensure clarity, the design highlights transparent pricing and seamlessly integrates compliance (via Papaya Ltd) and crypto investments (via Gekkoin) without overwhelming the user.
02. FINTECH APPLICATION AND WEBSITE
The goal was to design an intuitive experience where users could manage both banking and crypto investments with ease, even without prior crypto knowledge. I worked on key features like SEPA payments, IBAN setup, card management, and a smooth AML compliance flow (with Papaya Ltd) that unlocked Gekkoin investment products without repeated KYC. I also integrated Gekkoin’s crypto UX seamlessly into the app, ensuring clear flows for investing, tracking interest, and managing balances. Alongside the app, I designed the Gekkard website to reflect the same trust-driven, modern identity — simplifying complex financial information and supporting user acquisition.
